A wooden mosque built without nails by Chinese Muslim craftsmen.
About Dungan Mosque, Kyrgyzstan: how to get there and what to see
The Dungan Mosque in Karakol was built around the turn of the 20th century by Dungan craftsmen, Chinese Muslims who settled in the region. Its pagoda-style roofs and carved wooden details look more Chinese than Central Asian, and it was assembled without a single nail.
It remains an active place of worship and a symbol of the Dungan community. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times, with modest clothing. In the linked tours, this is an optional city-sightseeing stop, included only at the guests’ request and when time, traffic and opening hours allow. The tour card does not guarantee a visit to this particular place; agree your priorities with the guide in advance.
