Khiva, Uzbekistan: how to get there and what to see
A walled desert city built of clay and carved wood, preserved almost whole.
About Khiva, Uzbekistan: how to get there and what to see
Khiva’s inner city, Itchan Kala, sits inside brick walls and holds mosques, palaces, minarets and a forest of carved wooden columns. The turquoise Kalta Minor minaret, never finished, is its best-known landmark. Itchan Kala is a UNESCO World Heritage property.
It is small enough to walk in half a day, but staying overnight lets you see it at sunset and early morning without crowds.
